-BASICS-
Character Name: D Strider
Professor or Student?: Professor
Age: 35
Subject (Professors only): Charms
House: Slytherin when he attended Hogwarts.*
Wand Wood, Core, and Length: Aspen, Unicorn Tail Hair, 12’’, Unyielding
Position on the Quidditch Team (Optional): N/A
Pet (Optional): Savannah (Cat)
-LOOKS-
Appearance:
D stands proud at a height of 6’3’’, his body lanky and seemingly muscle-less (though he’s much stronger than he seems). His hair is a light, platinum blond to go with his deep ruby eyes and pale complexion. He looks like a movie star right out of a movie (well, he sort of is in a way) and always looks clean, professional, and ready to roll in the most ironic way wizardly possible. He is almost always wearing a suit, even on school outings since it’s always best to look his best. He also is always accompanied by his Savannah cat, Hallie.
-ABOUT-
Personality: D is a laid-back and (for the most part) chill person. It takes a lot to get under his skin, but it also takes a lot to get on his good side. The only people with whom he is close to are his family. However, that fact doesn’t stop him from being a great teacher (in his eyes at least). He takes things like his job, family, and friends very seriously, though he hides it under that stone cold poker face which he has had years to perfect. Despite the fact that he is hard to befriend, D is very protective of his students and will do what he can to keep them safe, hence why he teaches charms. Many of the spells he likes to teach are also great ways for students to protect themselves (and get into trouble). He has a tendency of making up ridiculously long ‘ironic’ metaphors as well when he wants to make a point, or even just for the hell of it. Sometimes he even cancels class to ‘teach the students how to conjure up sick fires’ which is one of the best magics out there according to him. He always puts others first and passes off his selfless acts as ‘no big deal,’ since he believes everyone deserves to feel needed and loved (though he would never admit something like that). He is great at acting, having been an actor and movie director before his time at Hogwarts (as much as he loved Quidditch, he had to find something to do when he wasn’t playing). He has a bad habit of spoiling his nephews Dirk, Dave and (especially) Hal, being the ‘rich, single uncle with nothing better to do with his life.’ He also has a soft spot for animals, since come on. Animals are the shit. Small ones, big ones, cute ones, scary ones. Saying no to taking care of an animal is like saying no to someone offering you a big fucking apple pie, topped with ice cream and whipped cream despite being starving for weeks on end. You just got back from a deserted desert island with no food and hardly any water and you’re saying no to that shit? Especially if the one offering the pie is a hot mom. To say no to her? That’s some whacked out stuff right there, like—Ahem. Apple pies and hot moms aside, D would refer to himself as ‘the king or irony and rad.’ Honestly, though? He’s just another person that worries himself sick (seriously he got a fever once from worrying) over his students and family, and that right there is the coolest shit ever.
Background (Why Hogwarts? Childhood? Any connections to other characters?: D had a pretty hectic childhood. He became a child actor at age six and carried on until he got his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. His career on hold, D continued to learn magic and various other things involving the wizardry world. However, he was horrified to find out the house he was to be sorted into. Slytherin. He had always heard stories on how the students of Slytherin were bad and more prone to being evil. Sure, he's no hero, but a villain? It took him months to get used to being in the house, and only because his Charms professor had told him something that changed his look on the house forever: Slytherin doesn't mean you might grow up to be dark or evil. It means you are destined to do amazing things. Destined for greatness. After that, D not only did better in school, he felt like he did better as an overall person. He could finally love being a Slytherin, and he made sure to help others realize how amazing it could be to be one (leading him to be head boy for quite some time). Another thing he loved, and excelled in, was Quidditch. He was a star player and seeker, and once his time at Hogwarts was up, he joined the game professionally. He was a famous team member for a good five years before an accident happened. Being a Strider means you have sensitive eyes. Well, that was especially so for D. After an accident that he doesn’t like to talk about, the Strider was blinded in his left eye. He got lucky it was only one eye.
After his Quidditch career ended (he couldn’t play with only one good eye), D went back to performing. He became a famous director and actor and lived in that glory for a few years before taking a break. Why? Because he wanted to settle down with a girl he had fallen for. Before they were able to get married, however, their baby decided to come two months earlier than planned. She died in childbirth, and the baby died three days later. D had never known true pain until then. Even his loss of sight in his left eye seemed minor to that. He locked himself away for weeks on end before he realized that he needed to be more involved with his family. They could leave him at any time without warning, so he needed to be there for them. It’s always hardest for teenagers, and Bro wasn’t always the best parent.
In order to look after his nephews even more, D took up working as the Charms professor at Hogwarts, and he hasn’t regretted his choice since. Something about watching all the kids grow around him was satisfying. Teaching them things that would help them in the future gave him a sense of purpose. D never felt like a hero, and he knows he never will be one in any way, but he just feels so content being with all the brats. He’s also been recognized by few as famous, looked up to by others, hated by some, and all of it is amazing to him. He and Hallie love their lives at Hogwarts.
Oh! Speaking of Hallie, D found her mother as a kitten in a box when the boys were babies. D took care of the mother (he had named her Serenity) for about ten years and eventually one day he realized she was pregnant (that’s what he gets for letting his friend watch her for the weekend when he has the same breed and hasn’t bothered fixing him). She only had one kitten, and passed away a couple years later from some virus. After the first year of having the kitten, D decided to name her Hallie, after his youngest nephew who seemed to be in love with her. She soon grew to fit the name. She’s now five years old and D’s best friend, following him everywhere he goes, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
For Professors: Why is your character teaching the class they are?: D wanted to teach Charms because 1) No one can teach charms like a Strider can. Come on, they’re FULL of charm. Nothing BUT charm (especially D). 2) Seriously. Who needs more than reason one? 3) Alright, fine. He was always pretty interested in Charms and hexes but the main reason was that he wanted to make sure the students were protected. He knew the feeling of losing a kid, and it wasn’t something he wanted hundreds of parents feeling. He wanted these kids to stay safe and alive, damn it, and he was going to make sure they knew plenty of spells to keep them that way. It also had something to do with his old Charms teacher. He wanted to help students see the bright sides to their houses, especially if they felt like they didn't belong there.
Quirks & Et cetera (Anything else you would like to add?): D keeps a stash of apple juice and cat treats under his bed and has a birthmark shaped like a butterfly on his lower back which he refuses to admit having. His patronus is the Phoenix, having risen from the ashes of his past troubles and woes and helping others who are in similar situations. He is also a registered animagus and can turn into a tiger.
